Highly Absorbent, Hygienic and Oh So Soft and Comfy
New bedding product provides cow comfort, absorbency and mastitis resistant qualities
Ultimate Bedding Products has launched a new bedding material that
Modeled after a product already in use in Europe, this new bedding material was introduced to the US marketplace by Ultimate Bedding Products in 2016. Produced from 100% recycled paper, it is FIVE TIMES more absorbent than shavings and TEN TIMES more absorbent than straw. This bedding product goes through a thermal drying process, is kiln dried, heat treated and UV treated to ensure it arrives at farms free of harmful pathogens and bacteria. Its pH of 7.4 and natural lime content of 30-40 percent, together with its tremendous absorbency, help reduce somatic cell counts and clinical mastitis. These hygienic qualities make this a superior bedding choice in hutches and calf pens as well.
This Ultimate Bedding product is precision screened for consistency, producing a soft, fine, low dust material that is easy to handle and spread. Your cows will enjoy the soft, cushiony bed this texture provides, promoting cow comfort and productivity. The bedding clumps around moisture, almost encapsulating it, so the rest of the bed stays clean and dry. The absorbency qualities of this bedding make it last longer, therefore providing an economic advantage over other types of bedding as well.
Ultimate Bedding Products also helps promote sustainability. This bedding product is produced from recycled paper, is processed without chemicals, is 100% biodegradable and its natural lime content will help improve soil health when spread on cropland.
The processing and hygienic qualities of this new bedding product will augment Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) food safety systems expected to soon extend to the farm level. HACCP systems are already required by the FDA for dairy and meat processing facilities, but with the cow and the farm being the initial “critical control point” to prevent food safety hazards in the dairy and beef food industries, it is logical that HACCP principals will soon encompass standard operating procedures on farms. These “cow-to-consumer” food safety systems are already in place in many countries, further driving the implementation in the U.S.
Produced at a 400,000 square foot facility in Romulus, NY, the bedding is readily available year around and delivered in bulk to farms. Ultimate Bedding works well on mattresses, mats, deep bed stalls and calf barns and hutches. Farms can also take advantage of the extra absorbency and hygienic qualities of this superior bedding by mixing it with or top dressing it on other types of bedding. This bedding product is available and advantageous for other livestock as well.
